Batteries affected by the first large scale scrap metal drive during World War II in October 1942.

In 1942, the War Production Board mounted a massive scrap metal drive, hoping to collect 17,000,000 tons of metal. The War Department obsolete arms scrapping drive was a part of that first scrap drive and resulted in a large scale scrapping of coastal defense hardware. Especially hard hit were coastal mortar batteries all of which were essentially obsolete.
