Battle of Antietam
Battle of Antietam (17 Sep 1862) - A U.S. Civil War Battle fought between Union forces under Major General George B. McClellan, (Cullum 1205), and Confederate forces under General Robert E. Lee, (Cullum 542). Known by Union forces as the Battle of Antietam, also known by Confederate forces as the Battle of Sharpsburg. The battle was fought near Sharpsburg in Washington County, Maryland with inconclusive results and terrible casualties on both sides.
