Fort Tuscarora (1867-1870) - A miners fort established in 1867 near Tuscarora, Elko County, Nevada. Named Fort Tuscarora after the Tuscarora Indian peoples. Abandoned in 1870.
History
The town of Tuscarora was founded in Elko County after a successful 1867 expedition by trader William Heath to find gold. As miners flocked to the town in 1867–1870, a fort was built to protect miners from potential Indian raids. It is unclear if the fort was ever involved in an attack.
