Battery 155 - Salisbury Beach (1941-1944) - Battery 155 - Salisbury Beach was a temporary, World War II, 155mm coastal gun battery on Panama mounts. Located on Salisbury Beach Military Reservation, Essex County, Massachusetts. Battery construction was completed and transferred to the Coast Artillery for use in 1942. Two guns were removed in 1943 and the two remaining guns were removed in 1944-45. Deactivated after 1945. World War IIPart of the Harbor Defense of Portsmouth, New Hampshire. Originally built as a temporary World War II coastal gun battery with four 155mm M1918MI rapid fire guns mounted on M1918A1 Mobile Carriages emplaced on circular Panama mounts. Two guns were removed in 1943 and the two remaining guns were removed in 1944-45. Deactivated circa 1944.
Current StatusPart of Salisbury Beach State Reservation, Essex County, Massachusetts. No period guns or mounts in place but one or two of the Panama mounts may be partially visible.
