Fort Tongass (1868-1870) - A U.S. Army fort first established in 1868 on Tongass Island, Prince of Wales-Hyder Census Area, Alaska. Abandoned in 1870. Established in Jun 1868 by Captain Charles H. Peirce and Battery ??? of the 2nd U.S. Artillery following the purchase of Alaska by the U.S. in 1867.
Abandoned in September 1870.
