Richard H. Peyton (1811-1839) - Born 1811 in Virginia. A career U.S. Military officer who served in the Second Seminole War. Died 11 Nov 1839 at Tampa, Florida.

He entered the United States Military Academy 1 Jul 1827 and graduated in the Class of 1831 ranking 6th out of 33.

He taught mathematics at the United States Military Academy from 1832 to 1834.

He served in the Second Seminole War and commanded Fort Peyton at the time of the capture of Seminole Leader Osceola nearby.

He was a Captain serving as assistant quartermaster at Fort Brooke when he fell ill and died on 11 Nov 1839. Cholera and other deadly diseases were plaguing the Florida forts at this point in time.
