Shays Rebellion

Shays Rebellion (1786-1787) - An armed uprising in Massachusetts that started in 1786 fueled by repressive state tax and debt collection policies. Escalated into armed conflict when the rebels unsuccessfully attempted to sieze the Springfield Arsenal. Ended in 1787 after actions by the state militia.
