Francis J. Brooke

Francis J. Brooke (1802-1837) - Born circa 1802 in Virginia. A U.S. Army infantry officer, 6th U.S. Infantry, who died 25 Dec 1837, at the battle of Okee-cho-bee, Florida.

He entered the United States Military Academy 1 Jul 1822 and graduated in the Class of 1826 ranking 32nd out of 41.

1st Lt. Francis J. Brooke was one of four officers killed on Christmas day, 1837, while advancing against hostile Seminole Indians at the battle of Okee-cho-bee, Florida. He is buried in Jefferson Barracks National Cemetery, St. Louis, Misssouri.

Battery Brooke at Fort St. Philip, Louisiana, is named after him.
