American Fur Company (1808-1842) - Founded by John Jacob Astor. The American Fur Company failed in 1842. The assets and the name were later purchased by Pierre Chouteau, Jr. & Company of St. Louis. The American Fur Company name persisted into the 1860s. See Also: Links: |
